MicroBilt Corporation Adds New Board Members: Total Technology Ventures, Omidyar Network and ACCION International Execs Join Boa

MicroBilt Corporation, which acquired Pay Rent Build Credit, Inc. (PRBC) at the end of last year, today announced that it is expanding its board of directors to include several former PRBC investors, noted for their expertise in the areas of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), microfinance and underserved financial communities. Michael Nathans, PRBC's founder and now Chief Development Officer of MicroBilt's PRBC Division, and Tom Smith, a founder of Total Technology Ventures, have been added to the board and will have full voting roles. Jim Bunch of the Omidyar Network and Maria Jaramillo and David Maxson of ACCION International will serve as non-voting observers of the board. "We are pleased that these new members have joined the MicroBilt Board of Directors," said Bob Raleigh, MicroBilt's Chairman of the Board. Mr. Nathans founded PRBC in 2002, after 25 years in the residential real estate and finance industries. Prior to founding the company, he was a Senior Manager with PriceWaterhouse's Asset Securitization, Mortgage Banking, and Financial Risk Management practices. Mr. Nathans also co-founded Just the Facts, Inc. one of the first services to use credit histories and court records to screen tenants for apartment complex owners and managers. He has served as an Independent Director for Credit-Based Asset Servicing and Securitization LLC and received his BA from Franklin and Marshall College. Mr. Smith is one of the founders of Total Technology Ventures, an Atlanta-based venture capital firm that provides capital primarily to early and expansion-stage financial technology companies. Prior to founding Total Technology Ventures, he was Vice President of Small and Medium Business at IBM. Earlier, he was the Southern Area General Manager for IBM's sales, marketing and services business in a 13-state region. He holds a BA in industrial management from The Georgia Institute of Technology and completed the executive program at Dartmouth's Amos Tuck School of Business. Jim Bunch is an Investment Director at the Omidyar Network where he manages investments in small-to-medium-sized enterprises, microfinance and emerging market ventures. He also steers the investment group's strategy in these areas. Prior to joining the Omidyar Network, Mr. Bunch was CFO of MTI Micro Fuel Cells Inc., which commercializes direct methanol fuel cells for handheld electronics. Previously, he spent five years as an equity research analyst for Goldman Sachs in New York and London. He also served as the Vice President of Investment Research for Renaissance Capital, a Russian investment bank. Mr. Bunch holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in International Relations from Stanford University. Ms. Jaramillo is the Senior Director of ACCION International's Remittances, Innovations and Integrated Solutions Unit. Her role includes helping ACCION affiliates set-up commercially viable remittances services, testing potential financial products, identifying banking opportunities, developing alliances with money transfer companies and managing technical assistance projects. She is also working with Visa International to develop a pre-paid card remittances project incorporating client education and a communications strategy to increase card acceptance among low-income customers. Prior to ACCION, Ms. Jaramillo worked for the Direct Transfers Program at VIAMERICAS Corporation, a company transferring remittances to Latin America. Her experience also includes working for Leucadia International Corporation assessing potential investment projects in Latin America. She started her career as a research analyst at the Microenterprise Unit of the Inter-American Development Bank. She holds a MA in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University's Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies and a BA from Oberlin College. Mr. Maxson is the Senior Investment Officer in charge of helping lead and manage ACCION International's Gateway Microfinance Innovation Fund. He participates in portfolio governance activities and represents ACCION on portfolio company Board of Directors. Prior to joining ACCION, Mr. Maxson worked as the Senior Associate for Adelphi Capital, LLC for three years, acting as lead transaction associate responsible for managing and supporting a range of client service and transaction focused activities within growth/venture capital private equity investing and middle market investment banking. Earlier in his career, Mr. Maxson worked as an Associate Intern for HSS Ventures, Inc., a subsidiary of the Hospital for Special Surgery, a healthcare venture capital firm primarily investing in "B" stage orthopedic medical device companies. He began his career as a Management Consultant within the pharmaceutical service market for PWC Consulting (now part of IBM Global Services). Mr. Maxson holds a BS in Manufacturing Engineering and a Minor in Economics and Management from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MHA from Cornell University.
